These are just a few of the basics of poker:
A deck of cards contains fifty-two cards and two jokers.
In a deck of cards there are four suits; diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades.
The four suits are said to represent the past structure of medieval society. The diamonds represent the merchant class, the hearts represent the church, the clubs represent agriculture and spades represent the military.
Each suit contains thirteen cards.
The suits are ranked, from highest to lowest, Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three and Two.
A standard deck of cards measures about 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches.
